Well I figured it was about time my almost 3 year old got here first official sewing kit. She's been doing some simple stitching for about a year now but only when I brought it out and sat down with here. But now she will have here own little kit that she can use whenever she feels like it. Though I'm sure if it was up to here she would much rather get here hands on my sewing machine than this child friendly little kit.
I found some fun bright yarn that I had left over from some projects, scavenged some buttons in a little jar and stretched some cross stitch canvas on a metal hoop. The needle is a super safe very large and not pointy needle and the scissors are also child friendly. Just sharp enough to chew threw some string. Other than that I included a tape measure and a crochet needle, more for fun then utility. And there you have it, all you need to peek a 3 year old's interest for stitching.
She was very exited to find it sitting on the coffee table and is now all into stitching the buttons to the canvas. Most of them end up on the back but oh well. I'd say it was still a success.
Ah how wonderful! I think I shall have to set up something similar for my daughter. I have just started introducing scissors with her using activities from MaryAnn Kohl's First Art book.
